Jordan Henderson was pictured for the first time after suffering a freak accident during England’s wild celebrations at the Azteca in the wake of their round-of-16 defeat of Mexico on Sunday.
The Brentford midfielder took a tumble over the advertising hoarding amid the happy fracas in Mexico City and ‘completely smashed his forearm’, forcing emergency surgery in Kansas City.
Forcibly sidelined, Henderson – sporting a cast – could only watch his team-mates as they went through their drills ahead of their quarter-final against Norway on Saturday.
Henderson required oxygen and was taken off the pitch on a stretcher after Dan Burn noticed his emergency in the aftermath of the 3-2 win, and signalled for treatment.
The 36-year-old’s father Brian admitted that he had initially had no idea of the injury’s significance until he saw his son on ‘a trolley’ being given oxygen.
‘Straight away, I messaged his PA, who was over there, to try and find out what had happened. I was up all night waiting to hear the news,’ Brian said.

‘It’s his left forearm – he’s just completely smashed it. ‘He’s going to have a cast on and then it depends on what the experts say.
‘He won’t be leaving his team-mates. He’ll be there until it’s finished.’
A veteran in England’s squad, Henderson had been a key part of the set-up from the bench, and will now continue his role without the option of being deployed by Thomas Tuchel.
But so important is Henderson’s presence in the set-up, Tuchel’s assistant coach Anthony Barry lauded the former Liverpool captain as a potential future coach.
‘I see everything in Jordan,’ Barry told eSPORTY on Friday. ‘I’m so in awe of him as a player, a person and also maybe a future coach. It’s maybe more of a question for Jordan.
‘He has it all, he’s the full package, he’s a serial winner as a player and an elite person off the pitch. And when it comes to football IQ, he can really hold court with anyone and the best of them.’
England are training at David Beckham’s Inter Miami’s training facilities ahead of their meeting with Norway in the Sunshine State.

The Three Lions, who appeared to be plagued with injury concerns in the wake of their trip to Mexico, received an important boost as question-mark players Declan Rice, Marc Guehi and Reece James all trained with the side ahead of the weekend’s crunch clash.
Henderson’s injury leaves England light in midfield, with Rice, Elliot Anderson and Kobbie Mainoo now the remaining central options – although Manchester United’s Mainoo is yet to feature at the tournament.
Jude Bellingham, who scored twice in 98 seconds during England’s memorable win, said of Henderson’s injury post-match: ‘He’s in a bit of bother, but our medical team have got everything under control.
‘It’s probably best not to say too much when I don’t really know what was going on. But everyone was there to support him, and even that was a beautiful thing to see.’
