ESPN NFL Draft analyst Matt Miller has been placed on leave by the company as he continues to recover from a near-fatal car crash amid an investigation into his charity fantasy football leagues.
Miller, 43, became the subject of a consumer-protection probe by the Missouri Attorney General last week, shortly after he lost his arm in the traffic accident in June.
Now, it has emerged that the analyst has been placed on leave by ESPN with Miller sharing on Friday that he is stepping away from his role ‘indefinitely.’
In a social media post updating fans on the result of his latest surgery, Miller announced that the decision was taken in the interest of his health.
‘To best focus on my healing and recovery, I’m stepping away indefinitely and will be placed on leave from ESPN,’ he wrote. ‘Thank you to all for the prayers and thoughts; please keep them coming.’
He added that the surgery to remove his left arm was successful and that medics remain hopeful that he will eventually be able to have a prosthetic replacement fitted.

He continued: ‘Similarly, the femur and patella surgeries were also successful and the fantastic surgery team was able to save my left leg.’
Miller was airlifted to Mercy Hospital with ‘significant injuries’ following the crash in Missouri last month, which included multiple fractures and broken ribs. The other driver, a 28-year-old man from Springfield, was not injured in the collision.
On June 25, he was scheduled for surgery on his shoulder, as he explained on X: ‘Today’s surgery is a big one. To find out if my shoulder can be reconstructed in order to support a prosthetic arm.’
‘Your continued thoughts and prayers are so appreciated,’ Miller added.
Accusations against Miller began surfacing both before and after he revealed his June 17 crash and the horrifying extent of his injuries.
While a GoFundMe was launched to help Miller cover medical care, transportation, prosthetics and ‘countless unexpected expenses,’ according to organizers, an existing Reddit thread containing accusations against him began drawing attention.
In a number of online accusations published by Awful Announcing , Miller was alleged to have failed to pay out winners from his charity fantasy football leagues.
He was also accused of ghosting individuals who paid him hundreds and sometimes thousands of dollars for football scouting lessons. Some of the allegations date back a decade, when Miller was still working for Bleacher Report.

The AG’s office did not comment on specific aspects of its investigation but did ask for people to come forward with information.
‘The Missouri Attorney General’s Office encourages consumers who believe they have been misled to contact us,’ the office wrote in a statement to USA Today. ‘Attorney General [Catherine] Hanaway takes consumer protection very seriously, and we will work diligently to uncover the facts.’
The Daily Mail sought comment from Miller and the AG’s office. An ESPN spokesperson declined to speak with The Daily Mail on the subject.
Miller has worked for ESPN since 2021 after previously serving as Bleacher Report’s lead NFL Draft writer for over a decade.
The reporter, who made his on-air debut for the network in 2023, has also previously appeared on their NFL Live, SportsCenter and Get Up! among other shows.
