‘But seriously’ – Lampard issues Coventry transfers update
Coventry City boss Frank Lampard has issued a transfer update ahead of the club’s Premier League return.
The Sky Blues have signed just one player this summer, confirming Frank Onyeka’s permanent arrival after the Nigerian joined on loan in February.
And Lampard has made it clear he received assurances from owner Doug King that funds would be made available to strengthen the squad in the transfer window when he signed a new deal at the club.
“Yeah, of course. You think about different things when you sign a contract,” Lampard said.
“As a manager you’re at the forefront of it and you want it to go well.
“I understand what we need, I’ve been very open with Doug about that from the moment we got promoted and won the league, so I’m very keen to do the right thing to help us, to give ourselves the best chance.
“We’re going to want to – and have to – strengthen the squad where we can.
“That’s for us to keep close to ourselves now, to see how we do it in the best way forward in terms of the players here who deserve a chance in the Premier League because they got us here, but, of course, the opportunities we may have to be able to strengthen the squad to help those players, to help us challenge in this league.
“So we’ll see, but we have to keep that close to our chest and try and do our business.”
Coventry won the league at a canter last season and get their Premier League campaign underway next month with a trip to the Emirates Stadium to face Premier League champions Arsenal.
