Highly accomplished Nigerian female boxer, Kehinde Joy Obareh has sent out a clarion call that women in government and the private sector should play key roles in uplifting the girl child, especially those involved in sports.
Sports247 reports that Obareh, who is a multi-medal champion, sports advocate and promoter, made the call during the maiden edition of her boxing show, which she described as a landmark event meant to show the way forward.

She also urged well placed Nigerians in general – across federal, state and local government levels – to pay special attention to education of the girl child and how to improve health service delivery for women across the country.
The outspoken promoter added that the 1st Kehinde Obareh Female Boxing Show is an additional project she personally embarked upon to boost boxing development in the country through hunting for talents among home-based female boxers.
Obareh added that the maiden show at Lagos National Stadium in Surulere, during which she made strong promises to uplift 24 discoveries, was just the beginning of her efforts at putting innovations into the sector, especially for female boxers.
“I want young boxers to be focused and resilient in their boxing and educational careers. The government, especially highly placed women in government and the private sector, can also join hands in uplifting the girl child,” Obareh posited.
Sports247 reports further that Obareh, who is also a kickboxer, excelled in the 60kg weight division and was the first Nigerian female boxer to win a gold medal at the All-Africa Games and African Female Boxing Championship in Cameroon.
The pioneering boxer, who was ranked eighth in the world at her prime, cited strength, courage, faith and commitment as qualities that guarantee success, which she urged emergent female pugilists in Nigeria to adopt alongside their skills and energy.
