The highly anticipated rematch between Nigerian boxers Taiwo “Esehpo” Agbaje and Tope “TP Rock” Musa has been officially called off, ending hopes of a long-awaited sequel to one of Nigeria’s notable domestic boxing rivalries.

Sports247 reports that the bout had initially been scheduled to take place on July 31 at the Balmoral Convention Centre, Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos.
However, organisers have now confirmed that Agbaje will instead face an opponent from South Africa on the same date and at the same venue.
The cancellation comes after months of growing anticipation surrounding a rematch between the two fighters, whose first encounter took place on October 14, 2018. On that occasion, Agbaje emerged victorious, claiming a unanimous decision after six rounds of action.
Interest in a second meeting intensified after Musa publicly expressed his desire to share the ring with Agbaje once again.
Sports247 gathered that “TP Rock” recently commented on one of Agbaje’s videos after the latter declared he was no longer interested in fighting Nigerian opponents.
Musa’s message reignited conversations about a potential rematch.
“The rematch must happen, bro. This is boxing, it’s our work, and it must surely happen. Don’t waste your time fighting that journeyman again,” Musa wrote.
The comments were seen as a direct challenge and appeared to pave the way for the two fighters to renew their rivalry seven years after their first meeting.
A rematch between Agbaje and Musa had been widely regarded as one of the most intriguing matchups on the domestic boxing scene, with many fans eager to see whether Musa could avenge his previous defeat or if Agbaje would once again prove superior.
However, with the contest now cancelled, attention shifts to Agbaje’s new challenge against his South African opponent.
