Hull City of England defender, Semi Ajayi is facing the possibility of a large-scale exit of top players from the newly promoted English Premier League club, as The Tigers face a likely points deduction in the new season, Sports247 reports.
Ajayi, who was recently basking in the euphoria of the huge role he played in helping Hull City climb back into the English top-flight, is now holding his breath in tepid suspense over looming danger at the resurgent club.
This is sequel to stunning information that the club, which former Super Eagles’ captain, Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha last played for in his professional career, are running foul of financial restrictions in England.
It means The Tigers may have to sell off some of their top players in order to break even and fall in line with the EPL’s regulations regarding balanced accounts, thereby leaving Ajayi in suspense about his future with the team.
Ajayi, who shot to limelight in the colours of Rotherham United, after cutting his teeth in the youth sectors of Charlton Athletic and Arsenal, will also have to wait in hopeful anticipation that the issue would be resolved quickly.
The in-form calm and smooth-tackling centre back, who also previously played at Dartford, Cardiff City, Wimbledon, Crewe Alexandra and West Bromwich Albion, will also have to pray that he does not end as a scapegoat that could be sold off in the unfolding drama.
A report by UK’s Daily Mail revealed, “Hull City are attempting to avoid being hit with a six-point deduction in the Premier League with their owner admitting they must sell players to ensure they do not breach financial rules.
“The Tigers must sell players before the end of the month to avoid punishment, after overspending in their profit and sustainability calculation. Owner Acun Ilicali admitted that Hull will have to part way with some players.
“(He, however) insisted it was a ‘manageable’ situation, adding: ‘We have overspent and we have to sell some players before 1 July. I’m not afraid. We have managed harder things. Now we are a Premier League team, the values have risen.’
“Under English Football League rules, clubs are allowed to lose £39m over a three-season period. It is understood that Hull are set to pay out around £12m in player bonuses.”
