Nigeria Archery Federation (NAF) president, Mohammed Baba Abdullahi has received a strong charge alongside other members of the international body to hit the ground running and provide new ideas to uplift the sport internationally.
Sports247 reports that this charge was handed out by the secretary-general of World Fencing Federation, Raul Calin, while confirming Abdullahi’s emergence among five new appointments to its Commonwealth Games Committee.
While affirming the appointments as a push for vibrant global representation ahead of future international competitions, Calin stated that Abdullahi and the other new committee members are expected to represent their continents effectively.
Calin added in a letter he signed on behalf of World Archery, dated May 15th, 2026 and addressed to committee chair, Robert Fiddyment, that the appointees were selected by World Archery Executive Board (WAEB) based on their track records.
He pointed out that the new members, who also include Karl Balisch (Canada), Trina Roberts, Ainsley Ward (Scotland) and Virendra Sachdeva (India), are now expected to bring a diverse range of international expertise into the committee.
“We look forward to these individuals contributing to the activities on your committee,” Calin stated, while also confirming that Juan Carlos Holgado will continue to serve as the panel’s official federation liaison staff member.
Sports247 gathered further that the World Archery scribe added that all the fresh appointments come at a crucial time, as the federation continues to advocate for prominent inclusion in upcoming Commonwealth sports programmes.
He added that it is also geared towards ensuring top-tier technical oversight and governance from seasoned global administrators, thereby underscoring the drive for proper integration of archery within the Commonwealth Games framework.
