President of the Nigeria Taekwondo Federation, Tayo Popoola, has clarified that Nigeria’s absence from taekwondo events at the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Glasgow is not due to failure to qualify.

Speaking on the situation, Popoola explained that taekwondo was excluded entirely from the Games programme by the organisers.
“Nigeria did not fail to qualify,” Popoola said.
According to the federation president, the decision was made by the organisers and affects every participating nation.
“Taekwondo was removed from the Games by the organisers,” she implied.
Popoola also revealed that a separate Commonwealth taekwondo competition will take place at a later date.
“There will be a special Commonwealth taekwondo event later on,” she noted.
The federation boss assured Nigerians that the country will be fully prepared whenever the competition is eventually staged.
“Nigeria will be ready to participate when the time comes,” she added.
The clarification comes amid growing conversations surrounding Nigeria’s participation in various sports at the Commonwealth Games.
“The explanation helps clear misconceptions around the team’s absence,” many sports observers believe.
Nigeria remains one of Africa’s strongest nations in taekwondo and continues producing talents capable of competing internationally.
“The country still has strong prospects in combat sports,” supporters continue to say.
For Tayo Popoola, the message is clear.
Nigeria did not fail to qualify.
