Super Eagles striker Terem Moffi has described Nigeria’s failure to qualify for back-to-back FIFA World Cups as a devastating experience for both the players and supporters.
Speaking on the Super Eagles’ absence from the 2026 FIFA World Cup after also missing out on Qatar 2022, the OGC Nice forward admitted the disappointment remains extremely painful within the squad.
“It is devastating not to qualify for back-to-back World Cups,” Moffi said.
According to the Nigerian striker, the missed opportunity could permanently affect several members of the current squad.
“Some players may never get another opportunity to play at the World Cup,” he implied.
Moffi explained that by the next qualification cycle, some players may no longer be at their peak while others could lose their places to younger talents.
“Some players may no longer be in their prime or could be replaced,” he noted.
The striker stressed that failing to qualify is a regret many players may carry for the rest of their careers.
“It is something some of us will live with forever,” he added.
Moffi admitted the team failed to fully maximize its opportunities during the qualification campaign despite possessing enormous talent.
“We failed to take the opportunity when it came,” he stressed.
