National Sports Commission (NSC) director-general, Honourable Bukola Olopade has revealed that Nigeria’s training camp ahead of the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland will be located in the Scottish city of Aberdeen.

Sports247 reports that Olopade made this disclosure while unveiling an elaborate programme schedule for Nigeria’s build-up to the Games, which will hold from July 22nd to August, 2nd, ahead of which preparations will commence on Tuesday.
Olopade also made a strong call for high selection standards from the nation’s sports federations that will present athletes for the Games, while also emphasizing the importance of adequate welfare, discipline and top performance.
While referring to all areas of need as central tenets guiding decisions leading up to the Games, Olopade added during a meeting with officials of the various sporting federations that they need to imbibe the NSC’s performance-driven roadmap.
He announced that Team Nigeria will conduct its overseas training camp in Aberdeen, Scotland, which was selected for its exceptional facilities, climate similarities to Glasgow and proximity to the Games Village.
The Commission’s DG also disclosed that local camping will begin this Tuesday across the country to facilitate early conditioning, medical screenings, technical preparation, upgraded logistics and a clear mandate for improvement.
“The welfare of our athletes is non-negotiable. They are the reason we are going to Glasgow, and everything we do must reflect that. The days of excuses are over. Glasgow 2026 is about results.
“It’s about demonstrating that Nigerian sports is back on the right trajectory – focused, purposeful and athlete-centred,” Olopade, who also expressed optimism that it will be Nigeria’s most successful Commonwealth Games outing to date.
