Sports247 reports that the romance of Nigerian players with Leverkusen dates back to the days of Karibe Ojigwe in the heart of their midfield during Bundesliga fixtures and continental matches.

The most recent Nigerian connection at the club was the pair of Victor Boniface and Nathan Tella, who were part of the club’s UEFA Europa League silver winning squad in 2024, but both subsequently faded.

Despite the struggles of Boniface and Tellah at the club, history is now bound to repeat itself, as the highly ambitious yet midstream outfit are reportedly in the hunt for Ejuke’s signature.

Ironically, interest in Ejuke is coming from Leverkusen at a point the fair-skinned winger has struggled to get a spot in Sevilla’s starting eleven and his national team duties have also been minimal.

However, the former CSKA Mscow of Russia winger has over the months enacted some surprise moments for club and country at rare intervals, which might have caught the eye of Leverkusen’s egg heads.

A report by Tribal Football revealed, “The 28-year-old managed just one goal and one assist in 29 La Liga appearances, struggling to secure a consistent role for Los Nervionenses.

“Despite joining Sevilla on a free transfer in 2024, his impact has fallen short of expectations, and a move away is now considered likely.

“Several Premier League clubs are also monitoring the situation, but Leverkusen are currently believed to be leading the race for his signature.

“The former CSKA Moscow winger is valued at around €4 million by Transfermarkt and has one year remaining on his contract.”
