Former Super Eagles’ striker, Obafemi Akinwunmi Martins (Obagol) has promised that outstanding players discovered during the upcoming Italian Consulate General U20 Cup will be hooked up with top clubs across Europe, Sports247 reports.

While equally acknowledging that the winning team will get an opportunity to feature at a major competition in Europe, the former Inter Milan of Italy hitman added that many talented players will get contracts to start their careers abroad.
‘The Weapon of Mass Destruction,’ who also played for Newcastle United and Birmingham City in England as well as for clubs in USA, Spain, Germany, Russia and China added that the forthcoming competition will be a very exciting contest.
Obafemi made this known while speaking during the official draw and unveiling of modalities for the maiden edition of the competition, which was witnessed by Italy’s Ambassador Consulate General, Ugo Boni.
Also in attendance during the ceremony at the Italian Embassy was Lagos State Football Association (LSFA) chairman, Hajji Gafar Olawale Liameed, alongside the event coordinator and CEO of Rudder Sports Management, Babatunde Omijeh.
On what they hope to achieve with the competition, Omijeh said, “It is going to contribute diplomatically, economically and culturally because people will go to Italy, learn their culture and also get jobs. It is going to be good for everyone.”
Obafemi added, “We are not just taking the players that will win the tournament to Europe, we are going to be selecting players from all the teams so that they can go to Italy and play against other youth teams. We can’t wait to start the tournament.”
Sports247 gathered further that the competition’s winning team and a collection of the best players from all participating clubs will travel to Italy for a tour, during which they will be spotted to sign professional contracts during trials.
