Super Eagles’ coach, Eric Sekou Chelle is blowing hot ahead of Saturday’s final of the 2026 Unity Cup against Jamaica, as he boasted that his side will carry the day, because he has prepared them to win, Sports247 reports.
Heading into the big game at Charlton Athletic FC’s home ground, The Valley in London, Chelle admitted that the encounter may not be a straightforward affair, but insisted that his side will carry the day eventually.
He recalled how the same opponent took his team into penalties after the Eagles gave up a two-goal lead to settle for a 2-2 draw at regulation time before winning the 2025 final on penalties at Brentford’s BTech Stadium, also in London.
With that game still fresh in mind, the Franco-Malian tactician pointed out that penalties are also part of the game and reasoned that going the same route and still coming out on top would be a huge mark about continuity for his team.
Chelle concluded by affirming that he and his players will have to work hard and think smart in order to defeat The Reggae Boyz on Saturday, then quickly chipped in that they will give the game everything they have in order to come out on top.
“This is the culture I have put in these boys – the winning culture. I don’t know if Saturday’s game will end in penalties; what I know is that I have prepared my team to win. These are very young players with a bright future.
“They are hungry for success at any level. So, on Saturday, we will see how the game is decided, but we surely have prepared to win and defend the Unity Cup,” said Chelle, who will count on his array of rookies to make hay once again.
Sports247 reports that Saturday’s final will take place at The Valley in Charlton area of London, with kick-off scheduled for 7:30pm Nigeria time, while coverage will be live broadcast on several television channels across England and Africa.
