Nigerian sprinter Kanyinsola Ajayi has described breaking Nigeria’s long-standing 100m national record as a dream come true after producing a sensational performance at the NCAA East Regionals.

Ajayi stormed to an incredible time of 9.84 seconds to become the fastest Nigerian man ever over the 100 metres.
“It’s a dream come true for me,” Ajayi said.
According to the Nigerian sprinter, breaking the national record had always been one of his biggest personal ambitions.
“I have always dreamed about this moment,” he implied.
Ajayi’s historic time eclipsed the previous national record of 9.85 seconds set by Olusoji Fasuba back in 2006.
The remarkable performance also pushed Ajayi to the top of the 2026 world rankings.
“It still feels unbelievable,” he noted.
The sprinter expressed gratitude to God for helping him achieve such a major milestone in his career.
