Nigeria’s women’s national wrestling team’s coach, Purity Akuh is relishing the country’s chain of early results at the ongoing world series in Mongolia, where he disclosed that the contingent of four grapplers have gained valuable experience.

Sports247 reports that Akuh’s verdict came on the heels of the stunning victory enacted by African champion, Christianah Ogunsanya, who won Nigeria’s first medal at the ongoing championship tagged World Wrestling Series.
Ogunsanya won Nigeria’s first medal at the championship, defeating Mongolia’s Bayanmunkh via 6-6 technical criteria to get the victory, after earlier defeating another one of the hosts’ wrestlers, Tsovoo Gankhuyag via a 10-0 superiority.
She, however, had to settle for the third-place fight after losing her semis match to Kiyooka of Japan, who won with 10-0 technical superiority, while Commonwealth Games champion, Mercy Genesis lost 7-2 to Turkey’s Evin Demirhan.
Despite the defeats, Akuh said he was satisfied and happy with Nigeria’s outing, adding: “First and foremost, I give thanks to God. This medal proves that Nigeria can compete with the world’s leading wrestling nations and elite athletes.
“Our wrestlers have gained valuable experience from this tournament. As their coach, I have also learnt important lessons that I will take home to help improve their performance and better prepare them for future competitions.
“I would also like to express my sincere appreciation to the President of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, for taking on this responsibility and making our participation possible.”
Sports247 reports that the competition, which will come to an end on Sunday, is also being used as a build-up to the Commonwealth Games and 2028 Olympics, where Akuh assured that Nigeria’s team will exhibit lessons learnt on Mongolia.
