Arsenal fans were left shell-shocked after Paris Saint-Germain won the Champions League on penalties, but Jeremie Frimpong had no sympathy for the Gunners
Liverpool defender Jeremie Frimpong has explained why he celebrated Arsenal’s Champions League final defeat to Paris Saint-Germain so heavily. The Dutchman uploaded a video of him cheering after Gabriel Magalhaes missed his crucial penalty in Budapest.
Frimpong, his family and friends jumped up and down enthusiastically when PSG secured their second consecutive Champions League title after Eberechi Eze and Gabriel missed the target. He was not the only player to welcome Arsenal’s defeat.
Richarlison carried on his feud with Gabriel by mocking his miss on social media, while Erling Haaland also got in on the action. However, Frimpong has claimed his celebrations were not a means of rubbing salt into Arsenal’s throbbing wounds.
His original video was one of him and others at his home celebrating Gabriel’s miss with a caption which read ‘Let it all work out’, a reference to a song called ‘Indecision’ by Sampha.
It’s a tune which has been adopted by Arsenal over the last year. Most Gunners fans would associate the number with Eze, as it was used as the background music in his transfer announcement video.

Despite the video and the caption, Frimpong insisted he was not trying to mock Arsenal’s disappointment. He uploaded another post which said: “Chill me and my friend made a bet, and I won, that’s why I was happy” alongside a laughing and shrug of the shoulders emoji.
Either way, the disappointment of Saturday’s night’s dramatic defeat was put to the side on Sunday. North London was turned red as Arsenal fans lined the streets to welcome Mikel Arteta and his players home to celebrate their Premier League title triumph.
Considering the celebratory atmosphere, anybody out of the loop with football would never have guessed the players and fans were mourning a Champions League final loss less than 24 hours before.
Meanwhile, Frimpong may be reflecting on his own Premier League campaign this year. The Dutchman endured a difficult debut season after arriving from Bayer Leverkusen last summer.
He regularly found himself being deployed at right-wing instead of his usual right-back, as he struggled to get to grips with the Premier League. Frimpong’s displays resulted in him being left out of the Netherlands’ squad for this summer’s World Cup.
As he was still coming to terms with the disappointment, news of Arne Slot’s sacking by Liverpool was confirmed, just before the Champions League final. When Slot’s departure was confirmed, he uploaded a picture with the Premier League winner which said: “Thank you for everything coach. All the best for the future.”
