Mikel Arteta is eager to strengthen his Premier League title-winning Arsenal squad this summer, and Dani Olmo has been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium
Dani Olmo has made it clear he has no intention of leaving Barcelona for Arsenal this summer. Olmo, who joined Barcelona from RB Leipzig in a £51 million deal two years ago, helped the Catalan club win the La Liga title last season.
The Spain international scored times in 49 appearances in all competitions, but his future at the Spotify Camp Nou has been the subject of continued speculation. Reports in Spain have suggested in recent days that the Gunners were preparing a €60m (£51.8m) offer for the attacking midfielder.
But when asked directly about the link and a move to Arsenal this summer, Olmo told Mundo Deportivo: “No. Barcelona fans can relax. There’s nothing to say on my end.”
Olmo, who is currently away with Spain preparing for the start of the World Cup, also believes Barcelona can overtake Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal to reach the Champions League final next season.
“We’re so close. I think we have it, but in the end it comes down to details, nuances, goals, centimetres,” he said. “We all have that burning desire because we know we can do it and that we can win it.
“That’s why we were so frustrated last year against Inter Milan and this year against Atletico Madrid, because in my opinion they weren’t better teams than us and we could have been in the final, just by looking at details and nuances.
“And the final is just one game. Then, of course, PSG had a spectacular Champions League run and Arsenal is also a very good team.
“But I think we could have been there again this year. In the end, it’s an experience you take away. It’s not something we like or that we’re content with.
“We’re not satisfied with just reaching the semi-final. We have to keep looking ahead and keep improving. We’re a very young team and we’re all sure that sooner rather than later we’re going to achieve it. Our goal will always be to do it next year.”
