Carrick deal official soon

Man Utd are planning to confirm Michael Carrick’s appointment as permanent head coach within the next 48 hours, Sky Sports reports.

An agreement on a contract has been reached with the current interim boss, and only the final legal details have to be ironed out before the 44-year-old will officially get the job.

Carrick has signed a two-year contract with the option for a further season after enjoying a brilliant interim spell in charge of his former club. INEOS chief Sir Jim Ratcliffe approved Carrick’s appointment on Friday.

Rashford U-turn

Marcus Rashford is willing to renegotiate his contract agreement with Barcelona in order to make a deal more attractive for them, according to Mundo Deportivo.

The England international agreed terms on a three-year deal with the Blaugrana that includes a 40% pay cut compared to his current Man Utd contract. However, in order to allow for more amortisation of his transfer fee, he is ready to sign a five-year contract.

Barcelona are currently unwilling to trigger his €30 million buyout option, but a longer amortisation period would ease the yearly burden on the club’s accounts, making a deal more appealing.

Benfica open to Rios offers

Benfica are willing to listen to offers for Richard Rios this summer, A Bola claims.

The Lisbon giants initially weren’t in a rush to sell the Colombia international, but their disappointing end to the season has convinced club chiefs that something of a summer rebuild is required, which makes raising funds from sales necessary.

Rios is one player who could now be sold, and Man Utd are long-standing admirers, dating back to his Palmeiras days. Rios has a €100m release clause, but Benfica could already consider a sale for as low as €30m.

Onana has no Man Utd future

Man Utd will not allow Andre Onana to compete with Senne Lammens for the No.1 spot this summer, as per the Daily Mail.

The Cameroon international is set to return from his season-long loan at Trabzonspor and harbours ambitions of getting a second crack at being the Red Devils’ No.1. However, Man Utd have no plans to reintegrate him into the team again.

They believe that his wages and personality make him ill-suited to a backup role and will look to offload him, even with current No.2 Altay Bayindir also likely to leave the club.
