Barca pull out of Alvarez race
Barcelona have exited the race to sign striker Julian Alvarez due to Atletico Madrid’s €150 million valuation, Sport claims.
The Blaugrana hold the Argentina international in “high regard” but believe that such a price tag is unreasonable and simply not feasible. As a result, Arsenal and PSG have been left in pole position for Alvarez.
Atleti are not looking to sell Alvarez, but they will be in no position to turn down a bid if their hefty asking price is met. Arsenal and PSG are expected to make some kind of move for the striker after holding exploratory talks with his camp.
It has been claimed that Alvarez “wants to leave” Atleti after a second trophyless season.
Fernandes valuation laughed off
West Ham’s asking price of around €100 million for Mateus Fernandes has been laughed off by agents in the industry, as per Claret & Hugh.
The Hammers insist that they are “not a selling club” and will therefore look to keep hold of the Portugal international. They believe that they are in a strong position to command such a high fee for Fernandes.
However, industry insiders are convinced that there is no way that any club will be prepared to pay €100m for the 21-year-old, especially if West Ham end up getting relegated.
Arsenal and Man Utd are believed to be strongly interested in Fernandes, who has been one of the few positives of West Ham’s disappointing season.
Froholdt not thinking about transfer
Porto midfielder Victor Froholdt insists that he is not in any way interested in leaving the Portuguese club this summer.
The Denmark international has been linked with Arsenal and Chelsea in recent weeks, with the Gunners reportedly formally registering their interest in him last week. It was claimed that Porto could sell him for around €65m this summer.
Speaking to A Bola, though, Froholdt dismissed suggestions that he is looking to get out of the club after winning the Primeira Liga with Porto. “In football you can never promise anything, you can never predict the market. But what I want is to stay here. That is the plan,” he said.
“I love being here and I would love to play in the UEFA Champions League with this badge. I am very happy here and I would love to play next season here. Surely I will be at the Dragao next season.
“It is like I said, football is one of those sports where you can never be 100% sure, but in my head, next season I will be at the Dragao.”
