Porto wonderkid Victor Froholdt has told Arsenal in no uncertain terms where he will be playing his football next season.

The Denmark international is one of European football’s most sought-after commodities. Last summer, Porto managed to win the race for Froholdt by paying Copenhagen €20 million for his services and promising him an outsized role in their first team.

The 20-year-old has made 50 appearances for Porto this season, scoring eight goals and providing six assists from central midfield. He has been a huge part of the club’s success under Francesco Farioli this season, which recently culminated in winning a 31st league title.

Froholdt has been closely followed by various European giants this season, including the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea. The Gunners, in particular, have been heavily linked with a move for the youngster in recent days.

Last week, reports suggested that Arsenal had formally moved to register their interest in Froholdt and that a deal this summer would be possible. Porto, it was asserted, are ready to sell for €60m despite the player’s €85m release clause.

Froholdt breaks silence on future

Now, Froholdt himself has addressed his future. Speaking to A Bola, the Dane was unequivocal about his desire to remain at Porto for another season and to play Champions League football with the Dragons.

“In football you can never promise anything, you can never predict the market. But what I want is to stay here. That is the plan,” he said. “I love being here and I would love to play in the UEFA Champions League with this badge.

“I am very happy here and I would love to play next season here. Surely I will be at the Dragao next season. It is like I said, football is one of those sports where you can never be 100% sure, but in my head, next season I will be at the Dragao.”

Froholdt insisted that he does not have a specific “dream” club he wants to play for, but he did admit that he has ambitions of playing at a higher level. “Obviously, I have dreams. I love playing here at FC Porto, but I also dream of playing for some of the best clubs in the world.”

He added: “I am happy to see people following me and to know the fans appreciate my work. I focus on the feedback I receive from the coaches, from the team and on the things I can do on the pitch.

“Now, I keep everything else away from where I am, because I am here playing for FC Porto and I am not focused on anything else.”
