Chairman of the Lagos State Football Association, Gafar Olawale Liameed, has described the 2026 Lagos FA Cup as a landmark success, emphasizing its impact on grassroots development, youth empowerment, and cultural celebration.
Speaking after the final at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Liameed highlighted the unique blend of football and tradition that defined this year’s tournament.

“This competition is not just about winning trophies. It is about developing talents, empowering young players, and celebrating our identity as Lagosians,” he said.
He pointed to the symbolic involvement of young LSFA U-12 players in presenting the women’s trophy as a deliberate step toward inspiring the next generation.
“These young players represent the future. Giving them a role on such a stage is part of our long-term vision for football development.”
In the finals, Ikorodu City F.C. claimed the men’s title with a 1–0 victory over G12 Football Club, while FC Robo Queens dominated the women’s category with a 4–0 win against Ghetto Tigers.
Liameed also praised the cultural elements of the event, including the Eyo-inspired trophy presentation, describing it as a reflection of Lagos heritage.
“Football is deeply rooted in our culture. Bringing that cultural identity into the game makes it more meaningful for everyone involved.”
He further expressed appreciation to stakeholders, partners, ex-internationals, and traditional leaders—including the palace of Oba Rilwan Akiolu—for their support in delivering a successful tournament.
Looking ahead, the LSFA Chairman reaffirmed the association’s commitment to continuous growth.
“We will keep improving this competition. Our focus remains clear—grassroots development, talent discovery, and building a stronger future for football in Lagos.”
With another successful edition completed, Liameed’s message is clear—the Lagos FA Cup is not just a competition, but a platform shaping the future of Nigerian football.
