Traders and commercial motorcyclists in Ikenne, Ogun State, are eagerly anticipating this year’s Super-4 of the second-tier Nigerian National League (NNL).
On the spot checks by Sports247 in the quiet countryside town revealed that traders in the immediate vicinity of Remo Stars Stadium have already increased their stock in expectation of an influx of football fans.
With a total of six matches scheduled to hold at the eye-catching arena from Monday to Friday this week, anticipation is very high that supporters, journalists, stakeholders and tourists will invade nearby shops on a daily basis, while many others will shuttle all across town for one intention or the other.
The biggest selling point is expected to be canteens, eateries and other food outlets, where visitors from far and wide are expected to troop in morning, afternoon, evening and night for their meals.
A food operator at an outlet adjacent to the stadium, who identified herself simply as Mummy Abigail said business moves faster on match days at the stadium owned by Honourable Kunle Soname.
The lady from Akwa Ibom State, who operates Princess B Calabar Kitchen on the road leading to Football Academy Stadium, said she has brought in more food stuff to accommodate extra sales this week.
“I normally don’t open on Sundays,” Mummy Abigail told Sports247, “but I am here because I heard that the clubs will be arriving a day before their matches.
“We had extra sales on Saturday when Nigeria’s female team played, but that was for just one day. This time, it will be for six days, and four clubs are coming here.
“That means there will be many people coming here and they must eat. That’s why I am happy and I am ready to serve them with the best of my food.”
