Tyrod Taylor is reportedly signing with the Green Bay Packers as a replacement for backup quarterback Desmond Ridder, who is set to be released by the team.
According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Packers have turned to Taylor, 36, as a replacement for Malik Willis, who played behind Jordan Love for two years before departing to join the Miami Dolphins in free agency.
The veteran signal caller will fill his place as Love’s understudy in Green Bay next season, meaning Ridder, one of the only other quarterbacks on the roster, has now been deemed surplus to requirements.
It is believed the 26-year-old is being released in the wake of Taylor’s arrival, meaning he will now be on the hunt for his seventh team in five years.
He failed to make an appearance after being signed to the practice squad in December, which came after brief stints with the Minnesota Vikings, Cincinnati Bengals, Las Vegas Raiders and Arizona Cardinals.
Ridder began his NFL career in Atlanta, making 19 appearances for the Falcons before being released by the team in 2024.

As for Taylor, who picked up a Super Bowl ring during his time as backup for the Baltimore Ravens, he is heading to Green Bay on the back of a spell with the New York Jets.
He has played in 100 games over his 15 NFL seasons and made 62 starts in that time, including four last year in New York.
Taylor was named starter for the Jets on November 17, replacing the struggling Justin Fields, but only made three starts before injuring his groin. He didn’t play again after the team turned to rookie Brady Cook.
The former Virginia Tech star has suffered with injuries throughout his time in the league, with fitness issues preventing him from starting more than six games in a season since 2017.
The Jets were his seventh team after he signed a two-year, $12million contract in 2024 to serve as Aaron Rodgers’ backup.
Prior to his move to New York, Taylor played for the Ravens – getting his hands on a championship ring in 2013 – as well as the Buffalo Bills, Cleveland Browns, Los Angeles Chargers, Houston Texans and Jets rival the Giants.
