Arsenal’s 2-1 loss to Manchester City on Sunday has propelled Michael Owen to offer his take on the Premier League title race
Former England striker Michael Owen believes Manchester City will win the Premier League this season at the expense of Arsenal. The Gunners’ title charge suffered a devastating blow on Sunday as they were beaten 2-1 away to title rivals Manchester City.
City took the lead through Rayan Cherki before Arsenal fought their way back into the tie after Kai Havertz pounced on a blunder from Blues’ goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma. Mikel Arteta’s side put up a good fight, had chances to go in front and even win the game late on.
However, Erling Haaland secured the vital three points for City with a strike in the 65th minute. The loss to City on Sunday means Arsenal are now just three points ahead of Pep Guardiola’s team, who have a game in hand while Arsenal have just a one goal advantage over the Citizens in goal difference.

Dishing out his top six predictions, Owen also believes Everton will secure a shock Premier League top-six berth this season, with Chelsea set to miss out.
Everton fell to their Merseyside neighbours Liverpool 2-1 on Sunday in the inaugural derby at the Hill Dickinson Stadium. Nevertheless, Owen believes David Moyes’ outfit have performed sufficiently to clinch a top-six position this campaign.
Former Real Madrid striker Owen, who now represents Casino.org, a leading platform helping players find UK casino brands, said: “Well, you’d have to say that Man City have just gone slight favourites now, so I probably say: Man City, Arsenal, Manchester United, Aston Villa, Liverpool.
“I think Everton still could squeeze in. Chelsea have still got a couple of hard games to go and all’s not well at Chelsea at the moment. So, there’s a there’s a good feel about Everton. Maybe Everton could sneak in.”
Addressing Arsenal’s defeat to City, Owen was still full of praise for the Gunner’s head coach. He added: “You know, this is not an easy job to be a top Premier League manager, not an easy job and he’s doing a serious, serious job.
“If they don’t win it, they don’t win it. You know, he’s probably going up against one of the greatest managers of all time.”
Arteta still firmly believes his side can bring the title back to north London for the first time since 2004. Speaking after the City game, he said: “I believe today, I believe on Wednesday, a week ago, because I see them every day and I know the level that we have. But today, if they need to be more convinced, I think they are now more convinced.
“They were talking about it in the dressing room. It’s a new league now. They were a game in hand. We have three points of advantage and five games to play. So everything is still to play for. So we know how much we want it and we’re not going to stop and we’re going to go again, that’s for sure.”
