Chairman of the Sponsorship and Marketing Committee of the Nigeria Basketball Federation, Ugo Udezue, has emphasized that D’Tigress’ ongoing WNBA tour is about far more than wins and losses.
Speaking on the purpose of the tour, Udezue explained that the initiative is a strategic move to elevate Nigerian basketball on the global stage while also building the future of the team.
“It’s bigger than results,” he said.
According to him, while fans may focus on scorelines, the federation is looking at the broader picture, development, exposure, and long-term growth.
“We are thinking long-term,” he implied.
Udezue noted that the tour provides a unique platform to showcase the quality and potential of Nigerian basketball to an international audience.
“It’s about visibility,” he added.
He also highlighted the importance of integrating younger players into the squad, giving them valuable experience against top-level competition.
“It’s a chance for new players,” he stressed.
For the NBBF official, identifying and nurturing the next generation of leaders within the team is a key objective.
“We are building the future,” he noted.
The tour, which includes games against top WNBA teams, is expected to strengthen the team’s preparation for upcoming global competitions.
“It prepares us better,” he said.
As D’Tigress continue their campaign, the focus remains on growth rather than immediate outcomes.
For Udezue, the message is clear.
Think beyond the scoreboard.
Invest in development.
And showcase your strength.
Because in sport, true progress is measured over time, not just in results.
