The vice-president of Nigeria Boxing Federation (NBF), Honourable Omonlei Yakubu Imadu has outlined a strategy to be employed towards picking 10 boxers who will represent the country at this year’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.

Sports247 reports that, following an announcement that 40 competitors have been invited to the NBF’s final training camp in Lagos, Imadu stressed that it will not be business as usual, considering that the federation wants to win ‘10 medals with 10 boxers.’
He disclosed that the invited boxers – twenty men and twenty women – who will be graded across all weight categories, were largely finalists from this year’s National Boxing Open Trials that took place in Lagos this past February.
The camp will open on Friday, with training sessions commencing fully the following day at Lagos National Stadium, Surulere, where Imadu reiterated that only the best will be selected to carry Nigeria’s flag from July 23rd to August 3rd in Glasgow.
Imadu added, “The model for picking athletes for international events has changed under our watch; it’s no longer business as usual for journeymen. We must ensure that the boxers who make the final list for Glasgow truly merit their inclusion.”
