Henry Nwosu’s Burial Postponed To May 30th, Still To Hold In Owerri

The much-expected burial of legendary Nigerian ex-international, Henry Nwosu has been postponed until May 30th, 2026 due to organisational and logistics reasons, Sports247 reports.

Although details behind the decision were not readily available, a member of the organising committee and former football star, Monday Kanu disclosed that the new date has been communicated to all relevant personalities, bodies and organisations.

Kanu, who has been in the forefront of publicising information about the burial, which will take place in Naze area of Imo State capital, Owerri, added that all hands are on deck to make it a worthwhile occasion befitting Nwosu’s legendary status.

He also appealed to all Nigerian football fans as well as stakeholders and associates of Nwosu to kindly adjust their schedules in order to pay their last respects to the 1980 Africa Cup of Nations gold medalist on the new date of his rescheduled funeral.

“This is to kindly inform all stakeholders that, due to unavoidable circumstances, it has become necessary to adjust the burial date for our late football icon, Henry Nwosu (MON). The funeral will now hold on Saturday, May 30th, 2026.

“The family sincerely regrets any inconvenience this change may cause and appreciates your understanding and continued support as we plan a befitting farewell,” Kanu stated in a press release.
