A chain of plaudits is going out for the current administration of Athletic Federation of Nigerian (AFN), under the leadership of Chief Tonobok Okowa, following what has been described as ‘a steady resurgence on the global stage.’

Sports247 reports that the latest commendation for Okowa and his management team in the AFN came after Nigeria’s athletes qualified for six events at this year’s World Relays Championship in Gaborone, Botswana.
This follows an official statement by track and field global governing body, World Athletics, which formally confirmed that all six of Nigeria’s relay teams are now eligible for final entry to the forthcoming championship in the Botswana capital.
AFN’s media committee chairman, Maxwell Kumoye noted in a press release, “The confirmation is a reflection of an impressive upward trajectory recorded over the past 12 months under the leadership of Tonobok Okowa.
“Since assuming office, Okowa has overseen renewed structure, improved athlete welfare and strategic international exposure. His commitment to funding, planning and athlete-centered initiatives has significantly strengthened Nigeria’s preparation.
“This progress has been firmly underpinned by the strategic backing of the National Sports Commission (NSC), with the Director General, Bukola Olopade, playing a pivotal role through comprehensive support for athletics and the AFN.
“These reforms are now translating into results, with Nigeria not only improving its qualification rate for major competitions but also restoring confidence among athletes and stakeholders.
“Nigeria’s qualification for the World Relays was also powered by outstanding performances on the international circuit, particularly at the Lefika International Relays and the Orange Botswana National Championship.”
