Director-general of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Honourable Bukola Olopade has posited that the recent triumphs by Nigeria’s under-18 and under-20 handball teams further confirmed that they deserve more private sector support in the country.

Sports247 reports that Olopade spoke against the backdrop of the Nigerian contingents’ recent conquest of both categories at the International Handball Federation (IHF) Trophy Zone 3 competition in Lomé, Togo, which he described as an ‘eye opener.’
The NSC’s DG also conceded that the commission has to lend more support to the sport and assured that the officials will start giving Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN) adequate support for their remaining programmes for the year.
The nearest of those is the upcoming continental handball championship, ahead of which Olopade reasoned that the double conquest in Togo showed that Nigeria has what it takes to challenge North Africa’s dominance in the sport.
Olopade, who also noted that the recent success was achieved by Nigeria’s male teams, as against previous female dominance, stated: “Your performance in Togo has shown that handball is a progressive sport that deserves support from the private sector and sports commission.”
