Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, have intensified preparations ahead of their crucial second-round clash against Guinea in the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers, with head coach Akeem Ishola Busari expressing satisfaction with the team’s progress in camp.

A camp source revealed that the team is currently based in Abuja, where training sessions have been ramped up as the players sharpen their readiness for the high-stakes encounter.
“The team is presently camped in Abuja and the level of commitment has been impressive. The players are responding well to the tactical and physical demands from the coaches,” the source disclosed.
The Flamingos, who advanced into the second round by virtue of their strong ranking on the continent, are leaving nothing to chance as they prepare to face a dangerous Guinea side.

Guinea head into the fixture in formidable form, having recorded an emphatic 8-2 aggregate victory over Niger in the previous round.
Their attacking strength, spearheaded by standout performer Aminata Touré—who netted a hat-trick in the first leg—poses a significant threat to Nigeria’s defence.
The two-legged encounter is scheduled for late May, with the first leg set to hold in Guinea between May 22 and 24, while the return leg will be played in Nigeria a week later.
The aggregate winner will progress to the final qualifying round in July.
Despite the challenge ahead, confidence remains high within the Flamingos’ camp.
Training sessions have been described as intense and competitive, with the technical crew also dedicating time to analysing Guinea’s attacking patterns.
As preparations continue in Abuja, Nigeria will be aiming to maintain its strong pedigree in youth women’s football and take another step closer to securing a place on the global stage.
