Chelsea have held “new talks” with Sunderland midfielder Noah Sadiki, but Manchester United retain a significant advantage in the battle for his signature.
The DR Congo international has been one of the standout performers for Sunderland this season. Sadiki’s energetic displays in midfield have earned him high praise, even if he has been unable to directly contribute to goals so far.
Sunderland paid €17 million to sign him from Union St. Gilloise last summer in a deal that looks like money well spent. Indeed, the Black Cats could already turn a handsome profit on the 21-year-old after just one season.
Such has been Sadiki’s impact that several suitors are already exploring a potential move. Namely, Chelsea and Man Utd are both being linked with a transfer for the Brussels-born midfielder.
According to Sacha Tavolieri, both clubs have been in contact with the player’s camp since at least December. Now, Chelsea have seemingly stepped up their interest in the youngster by holding “new talks” over a potential move.
Sadiki battle erupts
Tavolieri claims that Sadiki is “well positioned” on the club’s summer shortlist, with Chelsea one of the many Premier League clubs looking to sign midfield reinforcements this summer.
Enzo Fernandez could leave the club after this season, which would necessitate the signing of a replacement. His heir-apparent is thought to be Valentin Barco from sister club Strasbourg, but perhaps Chelsea are planning more changes to their engine room.
However, the Blues won’t have it all their way. In a follow-up post, Tavolieri makes it clear that Man Utd remain firmly in the race for Sadiki’s signature. Signing a midfielder is a much more pressing priority for the Red Devils, and they currently hold a major “advantage.”
Because Man Utd are “almost guaranteed” to qualify for the Champions League, Sadiki is likely to favour a move to Old Trafford over Stamford Bridge. Of course, this may yet change as Chelsea could still qualify as well.
According to Tavolieri, Sadiki has not yet made a firm decision on his future. A lot will depend on the “sporting project” his suitors can offer. Nothing is decided at this stage, but Chelsea and Man Utd are the clear “frontrunners” for his signing.
