Rivers United technical adviser Finidi George has expressed satisfaction with his team’s composed display following their narrow 1-0 victory over Plateau United in a Matchday 34 clash of the Nigeria Premier Football League.

The crucial win at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium on Sunday propelled Rivers United to the top of the table with 58 points, opening a two-point lead over closest challengers Rangers International.
Midfielder Wisdom Samuel scored the decisive goal early in the encounter, finishing off an assist from Taofeek Otaniyi to give the hosts a lead they would not relinquish.
Speaking after the match, Finidi highlighted his side’s control and discipline, despite a lack of clear-cut chances.
“It’s a match where we didn’t have so many scoring chances, but that first-half shot went in,” he said. “In the second half, we had a situation with Bungle going out, and I think that just highlights the match.
“We didn’t suffer much, so I think it’s a game that we controlled properly. There wasn’t too much stress at the back, but at the same time we didn’t create glaring chances either.
“If you look at the overall performance of the team, I think it was a good one. We are quite happy with it.”
The result reinforces Rivers United’s title credentials as the league enters its final stretch, with consistency and defensive solidity proving key to their surge to the summit.
With just a four matches remaining, Finidi’s men will now turn their attention to a crucial away fixture against Kano Pillars, as they aim to maintain their lead in what is shaping up to be a tightly contested title race.
