Sports247 reports that Olopade gave the far-reaching charge while inaugurating the boards for basketball, fencing, armwrestling and padel, all of whom he also urged to come out with fresh ideas that will uplift their respective disciplines.
Olopade also used it as an opportunity to formally welcome all new board members into Nigeria’s sporting sector, following which he urged them to display diligence, accountability and commitment to the development of their respective associations.
He further urged all the new board members to regard their positions as a call to service, a rare privilege and great opportunity to officially contribute their own quota to the enhanced growth of Nigerian sports.
‘DG’ reiterated, “These appointments come with a responsibility to serve diligently, uphold the highest standards of accountability and put the interests of our athletes and Nigerian sports first.
“We expect the new boards to work as a team, develop clear priorities and deliver measurable progress in their respective sports. Our goal is to build stronger federations that can nurture talent, compete successfully and contribute meaningfully to the growth of Nigerian sports.”
Sports247 gathered further that Dr. Abdullahi Mustapha is the president of Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), with Rita Mosindi as secretary-general; while Engineer Samuel Olatunji Jackson was inaugurated for Nigeria Armwrestling Federation, alongside Ms. Dorathy Okpo Benard as scribe.
Nigeria Padel Federation now has Honourable Jimi Benson as president, with Israel Inwang the secretary-general and Adeyinka Samuel will continue to lead Nigeria Fencing Federation, while Javan Bernard serves as the scribe.
Olopade also charged the four new presidents to build on existing policies, strengthen their respective bodies with grassroots events, youth development, wider participation by athletes as well as enhance Nigeria’s place in regional, continental and global competitions.
