2028 Olympics Qualifier: Super Falcons Deserved Victory Over Comoros — Eguavoen

Super Falcons interim head coach Augustine Eguavoen believes his side deserved their 2-0 victory over Comoros in the first leg of their second-round qualifying tie for the 2028 Olympic Games.

The 10-time African champions secured the win through second-half goals from Michelle Alozie and Uchenna Kanu.

However, Eguavoen admitted he was nervous at half-time after the two teams went into the break goalless, despite Nigeria’s dominance in the opening 45 minutes.

“I was nervous at the start because it’s an away game. A draw away from home would be good, but for our pedigree and the quality we have, forget the names of the countries, we played them with utmost respect, but the first-half barren 0-0 was worrisome,” Eguavoen said during the post-match briefing.

The coach, however, remained confident that the goals would eventually come, insisting that his team had controlled the game from the outset.

“I knew at some point we would score. It was just a matter of time because we dominated from the beginning to the end of the first half.

“They gave us a good fight, but we showed our superiority,” he added.

The Super Falcons will now look to build on their two-goal advantage when they host Comoros in the second leg at the Remo Stars Sports Complex, Ikenne next Tuesday.
