Chelsea are reportedly keen to finalise a contract extension agreement with Josh Acheampong in a bid to ward off suitors from across Europe.
The England U21 international is regarded as one of the Blues’ most talented academy graduates in years and he has slowly been integrated into the first-team set-up at Stamford Bridge over the past few seasons.
Acheampong made 30 senior appearances across all competitions last term and he has already featured on six occasions so far this campaign after establishing himself as a key player under new manager Xabi Alonso.
It’s understood that Alonso held a meeting with Acheampong’s representatives over the summer, in order to convince the 20-year-old he would play a key role in 2026-27, and the Chelsea hierarchy now want to engage in formal contract talks with the Englishman.
Acheampong has been heavily linked with a Chelsea exit for several years, dating back to his time in the club’s academy, but he is now viewed as one of their ‘untouchables’ and a new deal could be on the cards.
That is according to a report from TEAMtalk, who claim that Chelsea want to tie him down to an extended contract in order to end transfer interest from a host of top clubs.
Acheampong’s current deal with the west London giants runs until 2029 and while he is wanted by the likes of Arsenal, Bayern Munich and Liverpool, Chelsea have zero interest in sanctioning a sale and they are ready to reward him with improved terms.
This stance is backed up by Alonso, who is reportedly keen to retain Acheampong as he looks to build a squad capable of winning major honours in the near future.
What next for Chelsea in the transfer market?
In addition to finalising a contract extension agreement with Acheampong, Chelsea are also keen to sign a new central midfielder after failing to land a replacement for Enzo Fernandez over the summer.
It’s understood that Bournemouth star Alex Scott remains the club’s top target, although Marco Rose’s side reportedly have no interest in allowing the England international to depart during the upcoming winter transfer window.
Lamine Camara and Manu Kone also remain on Chelsea’s radar, while the club have been tipped to pursue a deal for Martin Zubimendi too amid his lack of game time at Arsenal so far this season.
