Top officials of Nigeria Archery Federation (NAFED) have finalised their plans ahead of the international championship that begins this Thursday in Abuja, as heads of various departments submitted updated reports of their efforts so far.
Sports247 gathered that, with a view towards making this week’s competition a huge and successful event in Abuja, the officials came together for an emergency meeting, during which they streamlined roles for everyone in the main organising committee.
The competition, which is officially tagged 2026 TIZOCATA International Archery Championship, will run from Thursday until Sunday, ahead of which NAFED’s president, Mohammed Baba Abdullahi charged all the MOC members to crosscheck their operations and continue looking out for loopholes.
Speaking in his capacity as MOC chairman, Abdullahi reasoned that they all have to be on the same terrain, with a united focus and equal level of ambitions, in order to put in place an effective organisation of the upcoming four-day championship.
While announcing members for sub-committees on accommodation, ceremonial, protocol, media, security, transport and welfare, Abdullahi also urged all the executive committee officials to check for any area that has not yet been covered ahead of D-Day.
Abdullahi also commended the federation’s first vice-pesident, Augustine Chigbolu for his continued efforts at getting sponsorship for the historic competition, a task that he admitted has not been easy due to the country’s current hard economic realities.
On his part, NOC’s deputy secretary, Mohammed Baba Abdullahi urged all heads of various committees to cut the size of their members to three or four, then hammered on the issue of protocol and the logistics of receiving various teams on their arrival.
“Some of the visiting teams would arrive at odd hours of the night due to their flight schedules. That means there is a critical need for adequate security arrangements to be made for all of the visitors on arrival,” Abdullahi stressed.
