Portuguese FA Weighs Six-Month Ban After Ronaldo’s Shock Exit

The Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) is facing a disciplinary dilemma after Cristiano Ronaldo abruptly walked out of the national team’s training camp following an explosive disagreement with head coach Jorge Jesus.

The 41-year-old forward, who has amassed a record 234 caps and 146 goals for his country, left the squad unexpectedly after being left on the bench and subsequently skipping a training session.

Despite last-ditch efforts from coach Jesus and FPF president Pedro Proença to intercept him at the airport, Ronaldo departed anyway.

Under FPF disciplinary codes, any player who unjustifiably abandons or fails to appear for a national team activity or training session faces a potential suspension ranging from one to six months, alongside standard financial penalties.

The situation could now take another twist with FPF regulations indicating he may be banned from playing for Portugal again for some time.

“Any player who, having been duly called up, fails to attend training, a match, or any activity of the national teams or related to the sporting representation of the FPF or Portugal without justification, will be sanctioned with a suspension of one to six months alongside a fine.”
