Akwa United Face Godswill Akpabio United FC in Preseason Test

Akwa United and Godswill Akpabio United FC will face off in a preseason friendly game on Friday, October 2, 2026, at 10am at the Uyo Township Stadium.

Both teams, who are neighbours and use the Uyo Township Stadium as their home ground, are currently preparing for the 2026/2027 Nigeria National League season, which will kick off later this month.

Last season, Akwa United and Godswill Akpabio United FC were in the same NNL Conference, and both encounters ended in draws. However, Akwa United won the other encounters between the teams, recording a 1-0 friendly victory and a penalty shootout win in the State FA Cup final.

This season, according to the draws released by the NNL, Akwa United and Godswill Akpabio United FC will play in separate groups, meaning there will be no intense rivalry such as was witnessed in their games last season.

While Akwa United are still managed by Coach Paul Offor, who enters his second year with the 2021 Nigerian champions, Godswill Akpabio United FC have a new head coach.

Coach Edward Green is the man in charge of Godswill Akpabio United FC, who will be playing in their third season.

Both coaches will use the game to further test their squads as they prepare for the upcoming NNL season, with both teams highly ambitious and eyeing promotion to the NPFL from their respective groups.

Despite being just a preseason friendly, fans will look forward to an exciting game between two of the top male football teams in Akwa Ibom State.
