Guinea-Bissau made a perfect start to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers with an impressive 2-0 away win over co-hosts Tanzania on matchday 1, in Group L on Friday.
Goals from Franculino in the 33rd minute and Mama Balde on 58 minutes secured the win for Guinea-Bissau.
Tanzania, who are already qualified automatically for 2027 as co-hosts with Kenya and Uganda, are still competing in the qualifiers.
The game was their first competitive outing since a 6-0 friendly win over Macau in March.
Because Tanzania are qualified as hosts, only the highest-ranked team among the other three will join them at AFCON 2027.
The Djurtus will host Nigeria’s Super Eagles on September 29 at the Estadio 24 de Setembro in Bissau, while Tanzania will look to bounce back away to Madagascar.
Meanwhile, the group’s other game will see the Super Eagles host Madagascar.
