Nigerian-born former world heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Olaseni Oluwafemi Joshua’s driver, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode is set to face more days in court, as police hunt for evidence of reckless driving against him.
Sports247 reports that, despite three appearances at a magistrate’s court in Sagamu, Ogun State regarding the fatal accident that took place on December 29th last year, a positive headway is yet to be achieved by prosecutors.
Kayode was driving an SUV that struck a stationary truck on the ill-fated day, with the collison’s impact causing injuries to him and Joshua, while two of the boxer’s very close friends died.
The driver is facing a four-count charge but, after previous appearances at the court in January, March and last week, the case was again adjourned, with the next date of further hearing fixed for November 17th.
That came during the latest court hearing on September 10th, as proceedings continued over charges against Kayode arising from the fatal crash that occurred in Makun area of Sagamu, along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
Joshua’s trainer, Latif Ayodele, and the former champion’s strength coach, Sina Ghami, both died during the accident, which the police later alleged happened due to reckless driving by Kayode.
He is now facing a chain of charges that include dangerous driving that caused death, reckless driving, driving without due attention and operating a vehicle without a valid national driver’s licence, all of which the 46-year-old Kayode denied.
Prosecutors allege that Kayode was attempting to overtake another vehicle when the SUV crashed into a stationary truck, after which he and Joshua were rushed to hospital for treatment of injuries they suffered in the fatal accident.
Sports247 gathered further that prosecutors earlier told the court that they faced a lack of evidence because both vehicles had been removed from the scene before investigating police officers got there.
