Seattle Seahawks defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence has confirmed that the upcoming season will be his last in the NFL.
Lawrence, who is entering his 13th season in the league at the age of 34, has announced that he will be retiring from football at the end of the 2026 season. He confirmed the news to Yahoo Sports’ Jori Epstein.
The defensive star had considered retirement earlier this year following the Seahawks’ Super Bowl victory over the New England Patriots in February.
However, the veteran ultimately opted to return for a swan song, suiting up for the Seahawks for one more season.
‘It was a tough process,’ DeMarcus told Epstein of his decision to continue playing this season. ‘But through the grace of God, I’m able to play another year and soak it all up one more good time before I hang it up.’
He then confirmed that ‘this will be my last year.’

The defensive star joined the Seahawks last year after 11 seasons with the Dallas Cowboys
Lawrence joined the Seahawks last year after 11 seasons with the Dallas Cowboys, who selected him in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft.
However, while Lawrence suited up in the north west, his wife, Sasha, and their six kids remained in Dallas last season.
He recorded 53 tackles, six sacks, two fumble returns for touchdowns and three forced fumbles in the regular season en route to the Seahawks’ dominant postseason.
He added two more sacks in the playoffs en route to helping Seattle clinch its second Super Bowl title.
Throughout his 11 seasons with the Cowboys, Lawrence posted 503 tackles, 61.5 sacks, two interceptions, 21 forced fumbles and eight fumble recoveries.
In addition to hoisting the Lombardi Trophy in February, he was also selected for five Pro Bowls and was a second-team All-Pro once.
