Exclusive: Man Utd interested in Quansah
FootballTransfers understands that Man Utd and Arsenal have both made contact with Bayer Leverkusen for Jarell Quansah.
The Gunners are believed to be a more serious option for the former Liverpool star as they desperately need a replacement for William Saliba, but there is thought to be a sizeable gap in valuation at this stage, which could open the door for Man Utd.
Leverkusen do not wish to sell the versatile defender after just one season, and given their hefty valuation, it remains to be seen whether Man Utd will formalise their interest in him as they attempt to be disciplined with their spending.
Carrick wants more signings
However, it is worth noting that the interest in Quansah comes just after Michael Carrick admitted that the club will likely still be busy in the market in the final weeks of the window.
The head coach has stated his belief that Man Utd “need” more bodies ahead of their return to the Champions League. “We would like more, we need to keep pushing for more,” he said.
Man Utd are chiefly looking to bring in a new left-back and a third midfielder after Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos. The interest in Quansah suggests that they also want more depth at centre-back and right-back, while there could also be movement up front.
Man Utd explore shock Matanovic deal
One surprising option for Man Utd’s frontline could be SC Freiburg striker Igor Matanovic, according to Ben Jacobs.
The journalist states that the Red Devils have “discussed” the Croatia international as a potential replacement for Joshua Zirkzee, although there is no guarantee that the latter actually departs before Deadline Day.
The towering centre-forward scored 15 goals in his first season for Freiburg last term and made three appearances at the World Cup. He was at the heart of the controversial decision that resulted in Croatia having a late goal disallowed in their knockout loss to Portugal.
Camara price hike
AS Monaco have increased their asking price for midfielder Lamine Camara, as per Monaco-Matin (via Sport Witness).
The Senegal international is content to stay at the club for another season, which has emboldened them to harden their stance on a potential transfer. Having rejected a €50 million offer from Crystal Palace, they have made it clear that even €60m would be “deemed insufficient.”
Man Utd have been linked on and off with Camara this summer. Recent reports suggested that they remained attentive to his situation, but he may now be too expensive for the Red Devils.
