The president of Nigeria Amputee Football Federation (NAFF), Prince Opukiri Jones-Ere has revealed that all players in the country’s national team, Special Eagles, are determined to make the nation proud at the global championship scheduled for later this year in Mexico, Sports247 reports.
Prince Jones-Ere disclosed that, towards making their target come true, the players have stepped up training ahead of the competition, which is officially known as 20th Amputee Football World Cup, billed to hold at San Juan de los Lagos, Mexico, from November 13th to 22nd.
He revealed that 15 players are currently at the team’s camp in Abuja, while six others are expected to join the squad soon, as their training sessions and build-up programme heigthens at Moshood Abiola National Stadium, while they look forward towards representing Nigeria at the amputee football showpiece.
The NAFF president further disclosed that Special Eagles’ head coach, Gbenga Dosunmu has taken charge of the training routine, with close observations from the federation’s technical director, Victor Nwenwe, to ensure the players are prepared adequately for the championship.
“Training sessions are progressing well. The players are in high spirits and fully committed to the task ahead. I am also pleased to report that the technical director and head coach are on ground, overseeing preparations and ensuring the team is on course for a successful campaign.
“We remain focused and determined to give our best as we prepare to represent Nigeria with pride on the world stage,” Jones-Ere stated, while also hinting that NAFF will intensify preparations in the coming weeks, as the Eagles’ trip gets closer ahead of the competition’s November date.
