Pro-Palestine demonstrators rally in Greek capital

Hundreds of people demonstrated in Athens on Sunday, in support of Palestine and to demand an end to cooperation with Israel, Anadolu reports.

According to Greek media reports, demonstrators gathered at Monastiraki Square and marched toward Syntagma Square.

Protesters carried flags and chanted slogans including “Free Palestine” and “Solidarity with Palestine, no cooperation with Israel.”

They demanded that the Greek government end military and political cooperation with Israel.

The protest was organized following calls by the Palestinian Community in Greece, the Stop the War – Solidarity with Palestine Alliance, March to Gaza Greece, and several left-wing parties and groups.

Greek media also reported that Israel’s Foreign Ministry had issued a travel warning before the demonstrations, advising Israeli citizens in Greece to stay away from protest areas and avoid displaying symbols that could identify them as Israeli or Jewish.

Israel launched its genocide in Gaza on Oct. 8, 2023, killing nearly 73,000 Palestinians and injuring more than 173,000 others, most of them women and children, while destroying about 90% of the enclave’s civilian infrastructure.
