Fast-rising Nigerian-born heavyweight boxer, Moses Itauma has been tipped to surpass the height of his compatriot, Anthony Joshua Olaseni Oluwafemi with historic global achievements in the roped square, Sports247 reports.
This prediction came from the British boxer’s manager, Frank Warren, who reckons that the 21-year-old Itauma could end up stepping above the legacy of Joshua, who is highly rated as a two-time former heavyweight champion of the world.
Ironically, Joshua shot into the spotlight in April 2016 when he knocked out Charles Martin to win the International Boxing Federation (IBF) belt at London’s O2 Arena during his 16th pro-bout and Itauma is going for the same belt in that very exact building later this month.
It is ten years on and bout number 15 for Itauma, as he steps out to tussle for the IBF title against Filip Hrgovic, with great expectations on Britain’s best boxer of the year 2025 to emerge victorious, then face ultimate fights with Joshua and another Nigerian-born former champ, Daniel Dubois.
Taking a look ahead of Itauma’s August 29th date with history, Warren declared: “It’s part of his journey.
This is the journey and it’s got to be four or five years in front of where AJ was at this particular time in his career fighting for a title.
“That’s what we do as promoters and we invest in fighters that we believe in. We’ve been investing in him since he was 16.
It’s not something we do overnight. He’s been with us now for up to his sixth year since he signed to be with us. This has all been part of the plan.
“We’ve got for Moses the opportunity to become the second youngest ever world heavyweight champion after Mike Tyson and certainly, since the war, the second youngest fighter to win a world title after Naseem Hamed. So it ticks all the boxes.”
