Pre-Season: Arsenal Lose Again As Dortmund Claim 3-2 Win To Clinch Emirates Cup

Bundesliga heavyweights Borussia Dortmund secured a 3-2 win against Premier League champions Arsenal to win the 2026 Emirates Cup, Sky Sports reports.

After Mikel Arteta said Arsenal’s defending in Wednesday’s 3-1 defeat to Real Betis was “below the standard”, the Gunners found themselves in trouble again as they were 2-0 down at the break thanks to goals from Samuele Inacio and 18-year-old wonderkid Konstantinos Karetsas.

Arsenal had plenty of chances throughout – with the wasteful Viktor Gyokeres hitting the bar in the first half – and while Ethan Nwaneri pulled one back after good work from Christos Tzolis, a calamitous corner allowed Joane Gadou to make it 3-1.

Tzolis then capped off a promising performance by winning a penalty which Gyokeres converted.

After 90 minutes, the two teams had a penalty shootout run out with Arsenal converting all their spot kicks to win 5-4.

Up next for Arsenal is the Community Shield with Manchester City next weekend inside the Wembley Stadium.

In their last encounter at Wembley, in the Carabao Cup final, Manchester City won 2-0.

Meanwhile, Arsenal welcomed new signing Bruno Guimaraes onto the Emirates pitch before the Emirates Cup.

The Brazilian star joined Arsenal from Newcastle United for £75 million.
