NPFL: Kun Khalifat FC Set for Ownership Change

Nigeria Premier Football League , NPFL, side Kun Khalifat FC could be set for a major change in ownership, with the club’s shareholders seeking a buyer for a majority stake, Completesports.com reports.

The development has opened the door for a new investor to take control of the Owerri-based club ahead of the new NPFL season.

Kun Khalifat Up For Sale

Kun Khalifat FC president, Amaefula Michael, confirmed the development in a letter to the NPFL, stating that discussions are ongoing with a prospective buyer.

“On behalf of the shareholders of Kun Khalifat of Owerri, I hereby confirm that we are in the process of handing over the majority shares of the company to a prospective buyer.

“You will be duly informed when the process is concluded. Meanwhile, we appeal to you to commence the process of transfer of ownership to the prospective buyer,” Michael wrote to the NPFL.

New Dawn At Owerri Club

The proposed deal would see the prospective buyer acquire a controlling stake in the club, subject to the completion of the necessary ownership transfer process.

However, should the takeover not be completed before the start of the new season, the timing could affect any proposed change to the club’s name.

Further details regarding the prospective buyer and the terms of the takeover are expected to emerge once the transaction is concluded.

Surviving NPFL Relegation

Kun Khalifat gained promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) in the 2024/25 season.

Despite facing significant funding challenges, the Pride of Imo successfully retained their top-flight status in their maiden NPFL campaign.
