Nigeria’s men once again proved they belong among the Commonwealth’s sprint elite, producing a thrilling performance to win silver in the men’s 4x100m relay at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
The Nigerian quartet crossed the finish line in 38.12 seconds, finishing just 0.05 seconds behind Australia, who claimed gold in 38.07 seconds. Ghana took bronze in 38.13 seconds, making it one of the closest relay finishes of the Games.

England narrowly missed the podium in fourth with 38.71 seconds, while Jamaica finished fifth in 39.07 seconds. Canada and South Africa were both disqualified.
The silver medal caps an outstanding sprint campaign for Team Nigeria, whose relay team combined speed, composure and flawless baton exchanges to challenge all the way to the finish.
The quartet was powered by some of Nigeria’s brightest sprint stars, including Kayinsola Ajayi, Favour Ashe, Udodi Onwuzurike and Adekalu Fakorede, athletes who have all impressed individually throughout the championships before combining brilliantly in the relay.
The performance underlines Nigeria’s resurgence in men’s sprinting after an already memorable Games.
Earlier in the competition, Kayinsola Ajayi ended a 20-year wait for a Commonwealth Games medal in the men’s 100m by claiming bronze, while Udodi Onwuzurike followed with silver in the men’s 200m. Together with the relay medal, the Nigerian sprinters have announced themselves as one of the strongest sprint squads in the Commonwealth.
The result also continues an exceptional athletics campaign that has seen Samuel Ogazi win the men’s 400m title, Ezekiel Nathaniel capture gold in the men’s 400m hurdles, Chukwuebuka Enekwechi triumph in the men’s shot put, Jessica Oji secure silver in the women’s shot put, Ella Onojuvwevwo, Tobi Amusan, Temitope Adeshina, and several others reach the podium.
With the relay silver, Team Nigeria’s medal tally now rises to 22 medals — 10 gold, 7 silver and 5 bronze as the country’s remarkable Glasgow 2026 campaign continues.
Although the gold slipped away by the slimmest of margins, Nigeria’s sprinters left Scotstoun Stadium with their heads held high.
In a race decided by just five hundredths of a second, they once again showed that the green and white remains one of the fastest forces in Commonwealth athletics
