Nigeria’s Edidiong Udo has booked his place in the men’s 400 metres final at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, ensuring Team Nigeria will have two athletes competing for medals in one of the Games’ marquee track events.
Udo progressed after producing another composed performance in the semi-finals, clocking 45.55 seconds to advance to Saturday’s final.

The race was initially won by Trinidad and Tobago’s Jereem Richards in 45.06 seconds, while Jamaica’s Antonio Watson finished second before being disqualified, a decision that elevated Udo’s finishing position and confirmed his qualification.
Speaking after the race, Udo expressed his delight at reaching his first Commonwealth Games final.
“I’m really happy to qualify for the final. It has taken a lot of hard work to get here, and I’m looking forward to giving my best when it matters most.”
Udo’s qualification means Nigeria will be represented by two athletes in the final after Samuel Ogazi also secured his place in impressive fashion.
Ogazi stormed to victory in his semi-final in 44.52 seconds, the fastest time recorded across all three semi-final races, underlining his status as one of the leading contenders for the gold medal.
The presence of both athletes in the final represents another encouraging moment for Nigeria’s athletics team, which has enjoyed a strong showing in Glasgow across several track and field events.
With Ogazi entering the final as the quickest qualifier and Udo carrying growing confidence after another controlled performance, Team Nigeria will be hoping the duo can challenge for medals and add to the country’s tally at the Commonwealth Games.
