Fans of the Kansas City Chiefs are showing concern for quarterback Patrick Mahomes as he continues to recover from a startling ACL tear.
Mahomes suffered the injury toward the end of last season, leading to him need surgery.
But the quarterback and former MVP is continuing to build his strength towards an eventual return to play – ideally as the starter for Week 1.
However, some fans are over-analyzing one recent video of Mahomes’ arrival at training camp and sharing concern about how his legs will hold up.
In particular, they point to the quarterback’s left calf muscle and fear that he may be going through some stages of muscular atrophy.
‘That gait with the left leg doesn’t look too good. Definitely skinnier,’ wrote one user on X.

Fans believe Mahomes’ left leg is skinnier than his right, with some suggesting muscle atrophy
One Bills fan posted, ‘Not even trolling I’m glad he’s back. But does that left leg look really really thin or is it just me?’
‘Anyone see some muscle atrophy or is it me,’ wrote another user.
Another user said, ‘Limping and look how skinny that left leg is.’
‘Looks like he’s still struggling with active extension, when he plants his leg it’s still bent..’ said another account.
One user, who identifies on X as a Doctor of Physical Therapy, noted, ‘Patrick Mahomes has a skinny leg.’
Mahomes has been taking part in training camp but has been seen with a large brace on his left leg.
Speaking to reporters on Friday as quarterbacks and rookies reported to Missouri Western State University, Reid revealed that the three-time Super Bowl champion faces no restrictions following his recovery from a torn ACL.
‘Pat’s doing great with his [rehab],’ Reid said at a press conference. ‘Right now he’s got clearance to practice and do all the different periods that we have in this camp.

‘We’ll just take it day by day and see how he does. He’ll have plenty of eyes on him from coaches to trainers to doctors. But right now, he’s been cleared to go ahead and participate fully.’
Mahomes was equally thrilled to step back onto the practice field after spending his entire offseason in heavy rehabilitation following surgery on his left knee.
‘I feel stronger than I’ve ever felt, as far as strength and lifting,’ Mahomes said. ‘I feel amazing… I’m excited just to be able to play football.
